UAE Based Actors Deliver Stellar Performances of Iconic Hollywood Films at the Actors Showcase 2013

UAE Film Professionals Pay Tribute to UAE Film Pioneer Tim Smythe

Dubai-UAE: 22 May 2013 – Professional and amateur actors based in the UAE re-enacted scenes of Hollywood's most renowned movies on 15 May 2013 at the Dubai Marine Beach Resort to showcase the talent and skills of individuals in the UAE's growing film industry as well as celebrate the life of the late Tim Smythe – a pioneer in country's film industry.

Organized by Miranda Davidson Studios, this edition of the Actors Showcase was dedicated to the memory of Tim Smythe who recently died at the age of 54. Mr. Smythe is the Founder and Chief Executive of Dubai-based production firm Filmworks and was responsible for attracting films such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Syriana, The Kingdom, City of Life and Djinn to film in Dubai.

The Actors Showcase 2013 featured some of the country's top and rising acting talent re-enacting scenes from ‘When Harry Met Sally', ‘When a Man Loves a Woman', ‘Nuts', ‘The Power and the Glory' and ‘Primal Fear'.

Miranda Davidson, Founder of Miranda Davidson Studios, said: “I created the Miranda Davidson Studios Showcase as a grass roots initiative to excite, invigorate and educate people about the UAE film industry in a fun interactive way. To give a platform for hard working dedicated actors to not only show their talent but to educate both clients and the general public that this is a craft and should be respected as one. We might be a small movement right now but we are making a lot of noise.”

Rajeev Daswani, a Spanish born Indian model and actor who was cast as a Featured-Extra in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Stand-In Actor for Anil Kapoor, said: “I have worked closely with Miranda Davidson for over two years now, we have grown together in our pursuit to spread the word that the region has an upcoming talent base of actors, directors and even local film enthusiasts that are awaiting an opportunity to produce this media.  Our vision is to be part of this movement to create local cinema using the rich mix of cultures that truly represents the UAE and the gulf.

“We need to reach out to the rest of the world and enlighten them on the intrinsic beauty of the Gulf region, the rich local culture and the successful integration of all other cultures living together in peace and harmony, all working together to the unified growth of the region just like the late Mr. Tim Smythe.”

Individuals from across all sectors of the UAE's film industry were in attendance to pay tribute to a legendary man and support the exceptional skills and talent of the actors living in this lavish country.

His vision was to develop the UAE's film industry and events like the Actors Showcase is ideal to highlight the skills of UAE based actors, like Rajeev Daswani, an incredibly talented performer who is continuously working to perfect his craft and provide them with the opportunity to pursue a full time career in acting in the UAE.  This event shows that there is a budding film industry in the UAE whilst taking us one step closer of transforming Mr. Smythe's vision and - our dreams - into a reality.”
