Collaboration between ASTF and NASR to transform research into Start-ups
Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar, President of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) met, yesterday, in the Libyan capital Tripoli, Dr. Noureddine Al-Shammakhi, General Director of the Libyan National Agency for Scientific Research (NASR), the two sides discussed the ways of cooperation to turn research and patents are economically feasible to promising and emerging companies and start-ups through research funding to accelerate development in the Libyan society and the economy.
Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar, President of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) stressed that the brothers in Libya confirmed their insistence on building a sustainable economy and competitive, based on the rules of innovation and knowledge, while providing technical support and funding for research and innovative ideas, patents, to be converted to start-ups, offering products competitive in the Libyan market, enjoying competitive in terms of quality and price, which contributes to the accumulation of wealth and improve the standard of living of the Libyan citizen. He explained that the package of legislations and laws is important to be motivating this new culture, which is defended by the Libyan leadership and people.
Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar added that the institutions and private sector companies, next to the role of civil society organizations and care-governmental organizations, play a strategic and influential role, as a third partner, to provide investment and funding for research and patents are economically feasible, according to the objectives of National Strategy for Innovation and Knowledge Economy. This will contribute to the achievement of Libya to new heights.
In a related development, Dr. Noureddine Al-Shammakhi, General Director of the Libyan National Agency for Scientific Research (NASR), confirmed that: in this phase, we meet experiences and talk with competencies in the Arab and international institutions, particularly the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), in order to discuss the ways of cooperation to build a new Libya. He stressed that the next phase designed to confirm the application of the concepts of excellence and innovation in the management and follow-up systems, especially in the fields of economy, based on scientific research and innovation, as the basis for the quality system in the state. This will help to increase the competitiveness of the Libyan economy in global markets, and to achieve national economic gains, as well as a reflection of this matter positively on the social and economic development of the citizens. He stressed that there is a vision and strategy to become Libya during the period 2020 - 2030 an economic phenomenon, such as South Korea and Singapore, based on the knowledge economy.
Dr. Noureddine Al-Shammakhi said that Libya seeks to be at the forefront of the region's countries in terms of scientific production with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research through a package of incentives and rewards rewarding, for each of the publication in world scientific journals, registers a patent, and through a pilot program to fund scientific research in order to serve the purposes of development.
6th National Conference on Biotechnology
It is worth mentioning that both of Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar, President of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) and Dr. Ghada M. Amer, Vice President of ASTF have participated in the 6th national conference on biotechnology in Misurata city, organized by the Biotechnology Research Center, University of Misurata and the National Agency for Scientific Research (NASR). It was planned that this conference is organized in partnership with ASTF, as a key organizer of the conference in 2011, but the repercussions of the events and the Libyan revolution, postponed things. Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar presented thanks to Dr. Nabil Al-Natah, director of the Biotechnology Research Center, Dr. Omar Al-Kawy, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee and Dr. Abdullah Khalil Al-Barkuli, for their vital role that they have done to make the conference a success.
The participants in the conference confirmed that Libya is in the phase of the state rebuilding, the scientific and research institutions continue to march to participate in the reconstruction efforts. We mention that among the recommendations of the conference, the use of biotechnology in the DNA of the missing, and the participation of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation in the reconstruction efforts of the state.
It is useful to mention that, Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar president of ASTF has two meeting with Dr. Bashir Al-Marghany Arhouma, vice president of the Misurata University for Scientific Affairs, and another meeting with Dr. Nabil Al-Natah, General Director of the Biotechnology Research Center, to discuss the ways of mutual cooperation, and ASTF support for the Libyan state-rebuilding efforts in areas relevant to the field of joint work.
