DOHA, Qatar, 21 April, 2013 – Taurus, Ford's flagship sedan, showed its might across Middle Eastern markets during the first quarter of this year, as it posted an 88 per cent increase in regional sales. The positive growth was also reflected in Qatar where sales grew by over 200 per cent, thanks to the growing popularity of the full-size sedan among customers in the country.
The 2013 Ford Taurus builds on strong safety and technology foundations and offers a class-leading array of unique and unsurpassed technologies such as active park assist, adding to more convenience for customers.
“Since Ford Taurus debuted in the region, it has consistently become a favourite among Ford customers with its array of safety, infotainment and fuel-saving technologies which even more expensive sedans cannot match,” said Thierry Sabbagh, Ford Middle East's director of Sales. “This encouraging performance in Qatar proves that customers welcome the Ford Taurus and appreciate the unique features and driving dynamics that this model offers them, and that our commitment to deliver quality, smart, safe and fuel-efficient vehicles is well-appreciated.
“Ford Taurus is not just big in size but leverages technology to deliver best-in-class quality and performance, elevates driving dynamics and maintains its safety legacy,” Sabbagh continued. “It has definitely raised the technology bar and our customers love it. Adding unique features like MyFord Touch™ powered by SYNC®, active park assist and EcoBoost™ engine availabilities keeps Taurus a rolling showcase of technology leadership. With award-winning Ford Taurus and Ford Taurus SHO available, our customers only have the best choices that suits well their lifestyles.”
Ford Taurus received accolades from critics and consumers alike. The full-size sedan recently topped the Large Car category in JD Power and Associates' 2012 Initial Quality Study and received the highest overall vehicle score (5-star) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Ford Taurus is even more refined for the 2013 model year – with better fuel economy, more technology, enhanced design, improved craftsmanship and sharpened driving dynamics.
The 3.5-liter V6 is offered as standard equipment in Taurus SE, SEL and Limited series models.
In the Ford Taurus, this engine benefits from the addition of twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), achieving better fuel economy, more horsepower and a reduction in part-throttle emissions compared to the previous standard Taurus V6. This engine delivers an expected increase of 170 L/km highway, with 10 percent more horsepower than the current model.
The engine has been engineered for durability with chain-driven camshafts, high-strength forged metal connecting rods with floating pins, a fully counterweighted forged steel crankshaft, die-cast aluminum deep-sump oil pan and four-bolt main bearing caps with side bolts through the engine block.
Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics are controlled and reduced through employment of a tuned composite upper and lower manifold, and a silent-chain camshaft drive.
The Taurus engine is mated to the 6F50 six-speed transmission that adds fuel economy and performance, while allowing for lower gearing to be optimized for improved off-the-line acceleration, yet enabling higher gears to help provide economical cruising by keeping engine rpm levels low.
America's most innovative full-size sedan also gets even smarter with an array of even more class-leading technologies including SYNC® with MyFord Touch®, which replaces many traditional buttons, knobs and gauges with clear, colorful LCD screens and steering wheel-mounted five-way toggles. These screens can be personalized to display information relevant to each driver by using voice command, keeping the driver's eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
MyFord Touch is powered by a new version of Ford's award-winning SYNC system, combining voice control for vehicle functions, enabled Bluetooth® devices, MP3 players and a wide variety of external media.
The new Taurus also adds Ford's intuitive active park assist technology, making life simpler and more convenient for customers.
Ford Taurus SHO
The Ford Taurus SHO is the sportiest model yet to wear SHO badge, offering unique, performance-inspired design, road manners to match – and even more differentiation within the Taurus lineup.
For the new Ford Taurus SHO, subtle differentiation from the other members of the Taurus family starts up front, with a performance-inspired grille in black mesh – unique to the SHO – flanked by series-specific high-intensity discharge headlamps. Behind the front wheel openings, a fender-mounted scallop contains a subtle SHO badge.
Unique 19-inch premium painted wheels wearing standard 19-inch all-season tires fill out the openings, giving SHO a muscular, athletic look. Buyers can also choose 20-inch machined and painted wheels.
The high-performance Taurus SHO comes standard with Ford's most powerful EcoBoost offering, the 3.5-liter V6, delivering 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, featuring a high-capacity 6F55 6-speed automatic transmission.
Combining direct injection and a pair of turbochargers, the V6 EcoBoost engine avoids lag by employing impellers that spool up quickly for swift response. This Taurus SHO combination of power, consistent torque delivery, all-wheel drive and up to 9.4 L/km on the highway is unmatched by competitors.
