Dubai – For the seventh consecutive year, Christie's will be holding their twice-yearly sale of Modern and Contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish art, on April 16 and 17, 2013, in Dubai. In 2012, the sales had average sell through rates of around 84%, a clear indication of the success of this format which began in 2006. Among the 29 lots in this April's part I sale are works representing Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Morocco and Turkey, highlighted by the work above by the Iranian artist Farhad Moshiri. This sale will be complimented by the part II sale which includes works by around 90 artists, more than 20 of whom are represented in an international auction for the first time, but all of whom are from the Middle East. Buyers in the sales come from 30 different countries and represent a truly international group of collectors. The pre-sale exhibition which opens today also includes touring highlights from international sales of Watches, Orientalist and Islamic Art (see separate individual releases). Christie's Dubai sales are held at the Emirates Towers Hotel and are sponsored by Zurich.

Michael Jeha, Managing Director of Christie's in the Middle East, said: “This will be our 14th sale season in Dubai, confirming our commitment to hold regular sales in the region of art from the region. Many artists who were included in the inaugural Christie's sale are now represented in the world's most prestigious institutions and museums. In addition to championing the work of modern masters and better known contemporary artists, Christie's has also overseen the successful introduction of a part II sale category which offers the work of young, emerging artists. By aligning these two strategies with our regular part I and part II format, we continue to be encouraged by the solidity shown in this market and the sustainable way it has matured.”

Jeremy Baggott, Head of Zurich Private Clients in the Middle East, said: “Since announcing our partnership with Christie's this time last year, we've witnessed firsthand the passion of art collectors from across the region. The art market continues to flourish in the Middle East, showcased by a vibrant art scene typified most recently at Art Dubai. As we enter our second consecutive year of sponsoring Christie's, we will continue to raise the awareness of the importance of protecting art as well as preventing damage from happening in the first place. We are happy to show our support to this week's auctions and exhibitions.”
