• GE will underline its contribution to Abu Dhabi's travel sector growth with a focus on the aviation industry
Abu Dhabi, UAE; April 9, 2013: GE (NYSE: GE) will highlight its contribution to Abu Dhabi's fast-growing aviation and travel sector as a gold sponsor of the World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit 2013 to be held on April 9 and 10, 2013 in the city.
Regarded as one of the world's most influential travel and tourism events that bring together over 1,000 industry leaders, the Summit will present the contribution of various public and private sector entities in the growth of Abu Dhabi.
Underlining its participation at the Summit with the theme ‘Partners for Progress,' GE's dedicated pavilion at the Summit will showcase its partnership in promoting Abu Dhabi's aviation sector, which in turn is a key driver of the travel and tourism industry.
One of the region's established aviation hubs, Abu Dhabi had witnessed a significant 18.9 percent growth in passenger traffic at the Abu Dhabi International Airport in 2012, while the Al Bateen Executive Airport reported an increase of 11 percent in aircraft movement last year.
To meet the growing needs of the aviation sector, GE has partnered with Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies, a member of the Mubadala Development Company, the largest independent third party provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services and technical solutions for the commercial aviation industry in the Middle East, for Gulf Turbine Services, which is today a world-class gas turbine facility.
GE also has strong partnerships with Etihad Airways, providing its energy-efficient GEnx engines to power the airline's fleet as wells ongoing multi-year OnPoint solution agreements for maintenance, repair and overhaul of GEnx and GE90 engine fleet.
Nabil Habayeb, GE's President & Chief Executive Officer for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, said: “Hosting the WTTC Global Summit in Abu Dhabi is a clear testament to the evolution of the city as a regional travel and tourism hub. With significant investments in boosting the aviation, tourism and travel infrastructure, Abu Dhabi is firmly laying the foundation for diversified growth. We have a strong history of operations in Abu Dhabi, and we are focused on strengthening our partnerships, across diverse sectors, to contribute to the all-round growth of the city. GE is committed to be a partner in progress of Abu Dhabi and we will bring advanced and energy efficient technologies in line with the sustainable development vision of the Emirate.”
