Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University launches Smart Advising System based on technological innovation and artificial intelligence

UAE, 11 September 2018 - As part of its pioneering efforts to adopt technological innovation and promote creative thinking for smart learning and the knowledge industry, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) celebrated the launch of the Smart Advising System for its learners starting fall of 2018, reinforcing its position as the first university in the Arab World to adopt a new smart and innovating learning system that represents a key step in the path of smart learning, especially in the move to advise learners and helping them in a 24/7 interactive electronic environment. The university is the first in the region to create a smart learning system that will help learners choose the right pathways and courses to enhance the university's progress in keeping pace with the rapid developments of the 21st century. The new system represents a quality focused initiative that demonstrates HBMSU's position as the best model for the future of smart learning in the Arab World.

The Smart Advising System is a result of the “Innovation Lab in the smart learning future”, which is strategically important as one of the innovative initiatives under the umbrella of HBMSU to provide a world-class interactive platform to stimulate innovation and establish bridges of communication and creative thinking in smart learning in the Arab World. Through a clear methodology, the innovative system supports the realization of the ‘study plan’ that each learner must pursue and complete as a requirement for graduation, while also following up on their curriculum in an improved manner using the latest technological innovations and artificial intelligence techniques, in a way that mainly relies on an innovative “smart dashboard” that helps learners take the right decisions and guides them in the process of selecting learning courses and academic programs according to their desires, skills, and academic results, based on accurate data and information that are entered by learners into the dashboard in an easy and uncomplicated method. It is also designed to avoid human errors common during enrollment, while serving as an interactive communication platform between students and a smart and central facilitator anytime, anywhere. Through the system, the learners will receive insightful advices and guidance to help them make a clear academic decisions.

Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU, said: “The Smart Advising System results from our commitment to establish our pivotal role as a leading center to envision the future of education in the UAE, by laying the pillars of innovation, creativity in the knowledge industry and adopting a culture of sustainable development, that is guided by the unlimited support and continuous guidance of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of the University. There is no doubt that the quality-focused step is paving the way for the facilitation of the learning journey starting from the registration stage and through all the academic learning levels using smart technology and artificial intelligence, in a strong push to translate Dubai Plan 2021 goals into building a ‘smart, integrated and connected city.”

Al Awar added: “We have worked continuously in developing a smart, integrated, personalized, innovative and interactive advising system that provides accurate guidance related to academic programs and training courses for each learner in a practical, round-the-clock manner, which is based on the objectives of the ‘Dubai Smart City’ initiative that was launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE Ruler of Dubai. We are confident that the new system will be a paradigm shift in the re-engineering of education by devising new ways of managing the education and training system in line with future requirements, in conjunction with our aspiration to elevate the competitiveness of the smart learning sector and provide better education for the future innovators in the Arab world.”

Follow-up and evaluation processes between the learners and their mentors are an integral part of the smart learning process. It allows for measuring the learner’s results in different academic programs, facilitates the learning process and shows the extent to which they achieve their educational goals by evaluating their previous academic results, thus providing a better education for future innovators.
