Empower Prepared for Higher Output Capacity to Meet Increasing District Cooling Demand During Summer

The company is well-prepared as temperature soars high during the peak summer period

Dubai, UAE, 30 April 2017: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower),the world’s largest district cooling services provider, is well-prepared as temperature soars high during the peak summer period. The company announced that it has completed pre-summer preparation works at its district cooling plants and systems across Dubai to cater to the rapidly increasing demand during the hot months.

“The demand for district cooling is on the rise as summer approaches fast. However, with proven capabilities as a leader in the district cooling industry, we are ready to offer our customers enhanced services for summer,”saidHE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

Empower leverages on the off-peak winter months to ensure a consistent level of service during the peak time to its wide array of customers across the Emirate of Dubai. System adjustments for the summer period include updates at Empower’s state-of-the-art Command Control Centre that effect precise temperature control at units, smart calculators for accurate metering, bulk meter maintenance and temperature sensor verification. The process also ensures smooth functioning of networks and machineries, and readiness of emergency-response measures and tools.

A report published by Emirates Wildlife Society-WWF - ‘UAE Climate Change: Risks and Resilience’ - suggests that there could be an increase of temperature during summer months year on year and 10 per cent in humidity, in the UAE.With extreme high temperature prevailing throughout the summer, air conditioning is a necessity in the UAE. During summer, air conditioning accounts for about 70 per cent of the total electricity consumption. However, district cooling uses 50 per cent less energy than conventional air conditioning systems.

“Due to the extremely hot climate during summers, the demand for air-conditioning increases. This in turn leads to increased pressure on the electricity grid and it is important to identify solutions that consume less power and are environment-friendly. As such, at Empower, we promote the use of energy-efficient, environment-friendly and economical district cooling solutions that adopt the highest green standards and reduce the carbon footprint,” concluded HE Ahmad Bin Shafar.

Empower currently operates more than 1.250 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World trade Centre Residences, Dubai Design District, among others.
