Popular youth community group “Students for the Earth” has lined up slew of activities to celebrate the Spirit of Ramadan under the theme titled 'Spirit Of Ramadan'. “Students for the Earth” is a voluntary youth group based in the United Arab Emirates. It was formed in 2013 and has reached to more than 10,000 people through its activities. It is a registered youth group with the Earth Charter International and has organized numerous outdoor campaigns and activities and online competitions to promote environmental, social and humanitarian values. Various activities planned for the month are : Charity Iftar : Members of the group would be donating and distributing items like juice, cakes, biscuit packs, fruits, dates, cakes etc during Iftar time to 50 laboureres in Jebel Ali Industrial area on 17th June . By volunteering with their efforts and donations , group wants to make a difference in people's lives during this holy month of Ramadan. Donate Spectacles, Donate Vision : This Spectacle Collection Campaign aims to collect old spectacles/sunglasses to be donated to hospitals where they will be tested, cleaned and given to the needy at eye camps. Group will be collecting glasses with frames , only frames or sunglasses till 24th June with aim to help someone see better. My Green Ramadan Contest : This is an innovative and very interesting competition through which group wants to encourage people to celebrate and observe Green and Eco-Friendly Ramadan. This contest aims to inspire people to give back to environment , to respect and care for environment . To participate, people need to send a photo of how they celebrate Ramadan in an Eco-Friendly way along with their explanation as to why they think it is eco-friendly. Panel of esteemed judges will judge the entries and decide the best 3 as winners. Also most popular and most voted will be awarded. Eidi for the needy : Group had organized it last year as well. Gifts would be collected from those who want to donate for the less fortunate. Gifts like toys, clothes, snacks or anything which if gifted would bring a smile on the face of those who need them. The gifts collected will be then distributed to the needy on Eid and that’s why the name “Eidi for the needy”. “With a wide range of activities to observe this holy month, we are definitely geared up to make a difference to the environment and to others lives”, says group President Arushi Madan. This is inspirational and highly appreciable. With youth groups like this, world has high hopes to become a better place to live in.
