Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 13, 2020:   Medcare Women & Children Hospital (MWCH) in Dubai, one of the UAE’s leading multi-specialty hospitals dedicated for women and children has over the years rightly earned itself the reputation of being a true haven for women and children care, where they have the reassurance of receiving exceptional health benefits at all times. From the team of excellent clinicians, to its innovative thinking and the state-of-the-art technology and facilities, the hospital prides itself in providing the best to all who pass through its doors every day.

Never has this peace of mind been so necessary as now during the COVID-19 pandemic when for so many pregnant women, mothers and families, the prospect of having to visit hospital or medical facilities with their loved ones or to give birth may be extremely worrying.

Totally mindful of what a concerning time this is for all, Medcare Women & Children Hospital continues to take every precaution to ensure it remains safe from COVID-19 to protect all patients – mothers and babies, staff and visitors, and in line with the healthcare authorities’ guidelines.

Andre Daoud, Chief Executive Officer of Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centres said, “Our mission has always been to provide the best to all who trust us with their care and during these extraordinary days, we work even harder towards this. The safety of patients, as well as that of our amazing team of medical professionals, and all essential frontline healthcare workers, must be protected and prioritized so that they can continue providing quality care to women and their newborns during the pandemic and beyond.”

Medcare Women & Children Hospital continues to deliver safe and clinically excellent maternity and paediatric care to all its patients, including those who need a little extra support such as babies Krista and Noel.

Baby Noel is a miracle baby who was born at 27 weeks and developed Necrotizing Enterocolitis, a severe disease in the intestines in premature babies. At this very young age, baby Noel underwent three major surgeries and stayed at the NICU of MWCH for six months. A long time away from his family and from home. After all this while, baby Noel made it through and returned home to his loving family; thankfully because of the medical expertise and compassionate care of the doctors and nurses at the hospital.  Upon his arrival home his parents said, “Our 6-month journey was never easy, but we were glad that we have chosen Medcare Women & Children Hospital and have been so grateful for how every NICU staff provided their utmost care and compassion to our baby.  When we were at our lowest emotional point, we found comfort from all staff in the NICU who supported us so much and let us feel that everything would be alright.  They reassured us through their sincere assistance that our baby was in good hands.  Words will never be enough to convey how thankful we are for the heartfelt and amazing service they had provided us. This hospital will always be remembered as an important part of our baby’s successful journey to recovery.”

Baby Krista was born at 23 weeks and weighed less than 1 kg. As a premature baby, Krista had developed respiratory distress and needed support to breathe. The doctors and nurses at MWCH worked round the clock to make sure they provide continuous expert medical care to the baby, and emotional compassionate support to the parents to help them go through this difficult time. After six months of staying in the NICU, baby Krista was finally discharged in good health. Her parents were ever grateful: “when we finally take this perfect little baby Krista home, it seems almost surreal and extraordinary. With the help of the doctors and nurses at Medcare Women & Children Hospital, our daughter was able to recover fully and get discharged after almost 200 days in the hospital. The medical team was updating us on Krista's condition daily, which helped us built greater trust in the team and calmed us down as parents knowing she was in good hands. We are sure that once Krista is old enough, she would want to come back and say hi and thank you to the fantastic staff who helped save her life.”

On the continued commitment to patient safety, Dr. Shamsa Abdulla Ali bin Hammad, Chief Operating Officer of MWCH and member of the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Program said that “ Across all our hospitals and medical centres, we have implemented social distancing measures in all common areas and waiting rooms, and have intensified safety efforts like screening people for symptoms of COVID-19, taking the temperature of everyone entering our facilities, making sure people wear masks, and supplying disinfectant wipes and dispensers. Particularly for Medcare Women & Children hospital, additional measures have been put in place to ensure that upon entering the hospital for any maternity-related visit, patients are directed to maternity wards, without the need to pass by the Emergency Department. Furthermore, doctors, midwives and maternity nurses work exclusively on the maternity wards and they are not deployed to work in other areas of the hospital. We have also limited the number of visitors to the labor and maternity wards to decrease the likelihood of virus contamination.”
