Light Middle East 2013 Opens 24% Larger Than Previous Edition

The region's leading trade and networking event for lighting design and technology got underway yesterday (Monday, October 7th), bigger in terms of both the number of exhibitors participating and the space they are occupying.

The seventh edition of Light Middle East was inaugurated by H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, who was accompanied by senior industry figures, government representatives and senior management from organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt. The exhibition which is taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre will run until this Wednesday, October 9th.

The exhibition and conference kicked off 24% larger in terms of floor space and with a 15% increase in the number of exhibitors – with 253 participating from 25 countries – underlining the growing importance of the region to international lighting manufacturers and designers.

Light Middle East 2013 is a trade exhibition which focuses the attention of the regional lighting industry on the latest international products and trends which are being presented by a range of the world's foremost lighting manufacturers and designers.

Focusing on cutting edge design and innovative technology, the Future Zone made a remarkable debut with trade visitors flocking to see the latest creations and futuristic fixtures from some of the industry's biggest names. The Future Zone features innovative designs and products from the likes of GE Lighting, acdc, LG, linealight, Trilux, iGuzzini, ERCO and Osram.

“The future of the lighting industry will be driven by innovation,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “Over the years we have seen the industry transform itself from being one focused on energy consumption to one that is driven by the need for conservation of energy and resources and the use of alternate, environment-friendly technology.

“At Light Middle East we turn the focus of the regional trade buyers, developers, architects and designers to the latest in cutting edge design and revolutionary technology. We also work towards helping realise the conservation goals and green building targets set by regional authorities and are delighted to have the support of Emirates Green Building Council,” he added.

Some of the key concerns arising from the ongoing shift to LED technology for lighting solutions from more conventional lighting forms were addressed at the two-day Light Insight Arabia Conference, organised in conjunction with Lux Review magazine. The conference, which got underway yesterday (Monday October 7th), touched on the problems involved in installing and adapting LED lighting solutions. Speakers stressed the need for the entire supply chain to become aware about the advantages of adapting to new technologies as well as the pitfalls to watch out for.

The inaugural Light Middle East Awards taking place tonight (Tuesday October 8th) will recognise and honour the designers behind some of the most iconic regional projects.

Energy-efficient lighting solutions are among the focus areas at Light Middle East 2013. Platinum Sponsor GE Lighting is showcasing its wide range of solutions for outdoor, retail and office lighting. General Manager for Middle East, Africa and Turkey, George Bou Mitri said: “Light Middle East is one of the significant regional platforms for GE Lighting to showcase our diverse array of lighting solutions with a particular focus on sustainability, in line with the region's current focus on promoting energy efficiencies in lighting. Our extensive portfolio of LED lighting solutions, underline our industry leadership in this segment, which can play a key role in saving electricity consumption while being environment-friendly.“
