It was in 1874 in La Côte-aux-Fées, a small village in the Swiss part of the Jura, where Georges Édouard Piaget sketched the first strokes of what has now become an inimitable signature in the world of luxury and fine watchmaking. Blessed with the rare privilege of controlling the entire production for its watches and jewellery, Piaget brings together over 40 specialized crafts under its two Manufactures at Plan-les-Ouates and La Côte-aux-Fées, thus realizing some of their boldest concepts while simultaneously exacting the standards of quality it sets.
Piaget's first Brand Ambassador for the Middle East, Yara, recently visited the brand's Manufactures in Switzerland, a trip that enriched her knowledge about the heritage and spirit of the world's leading watch and jewellery brand. The renowned Arab artist, whose understated beauty and elegance perfectly match the brand's values, toured both of Piaget's Manufactures; the contemporary, high performance facility for watches and jewellery at Plan-les-Ouates and the historical site at La Côte-aux-Fées where watch movements are assembled. Yara was warmly welcomed by the brand's CEO, Mr. Philippe Léopold-Metzger before embarkingon a two day tour of the Manufactures.
On the first day, Yara toured the state of the art Manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, where she viewed a large selection of the exquisite precious stones that are used in the creation of Piaget's High Jewellery. She then witnessed the process that each watch and jewellery piece has to go through until they are finally ready. Subsequent to this visit; Yara had a stopover at the iconic Patrimony Corridor which gave her the opportunity to closely view exceptional timepieces worn by icons like Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor among others.
The following day, Yara visited the traditional Manufacture at La Côte-aux-Fées where she was treated to a hands-on experience and asked to assist in the assembly of a movement. Amazed by the talent she witnessed, Yara said, “Visiting the two Manufactures has been a real experience of sorts and I am greatly impressed by the skill and expertise these craftsmen possess. I myself attempted a few of the processes that go into creating watch movements and I now know how much craftsmanship and precision are required for each particular timepiece.”
Yara's trip culminated with a tour of the place where Piaget's story commenced in1874; founder Georges Edouard Piaget's house.
