Leading academies and partners join the Middle East's largest indoor sporting extravaganza

Active Sports, Original Fitness, IFA Sport, Rage Skate Park and more set to provide a range of sports and fitness activities at the Dubai World Trade Centre

Dubai, United Arab EmiratesDubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has announced leading academies and partners ahead of the largest indoor summer sporting event in the Middle East, Dubai Sports World (DSW), starting June 21, 2013. Duplays, Active Sports, Tennis 360, Original Fitness, IFA Sport, Rage Skate Park, Ping Pong Dubai, Football Centre, G Force Cricket, Dubai Badminton School, Adventure HQ and Ride Bike Shop will join the sporting extravaganza to provide attendees with a host of fun-filled activities ranging from fitness classes, through to summer camps, team sports, and an exciting skate and BMX park.

Entering its third year, Dubai Sports World offers a range of popular athletic games including; football, basketball, tennis, rugby, volleyball, skateboarding, futsal, squash, badminton, table tennis, cycling and the ever-increasingly popular boot camps.

Commenting on DSW's latest partnerships with leading sport academies, Ahmed Alkhaja, Senior Vice President - Venues, Dubai World Trade Centre said; “Dubai Sports World is designed to keep resident and tourists active during the hot summer months. In order to ensure Dubai Sports World caters to individuals of all ages, interests and sporting ability, we have once again partnered with organisations that bring people together in a dynamic, active and friendly environment, led by some of the best trainers in the city.”

Back by popular demand, Duplays will host a series of one-day tournaments throughout the summer designed to invigorate residents of the UAE. The tournaments are open to people of all ages and backgrounds with specific challenges created for youth as well as the much-anticipated corporate sports challenge. Tournaments include five-a-side football, basketball, rugby, dodgeball, volleyball, and squash.

The enthusiasm of the people who participate in our tournaments is infectious and creates a wonderful atmosphere amongst the sporting community. Our tournaments are designed to bring people together in a friendly, yet competitive environment. Our aim is to build a strong sense of team-spirit and sportsmanship amongst all athletes as they develop skills that they will use on and off the pitch.”

Parents can additionally sign their youngsters up for a range of summer camps – as offered by Active Sports - helping to keep children active during the long summer break. Camp activities include tennis, swimming, hockey and dodge ball and run Sunday through Thursday from 8.30am to 2pm.

Joining DSW for the third year is IFA Sport who will be organizing a series of football master classes and basketball summer camps for kids aged 4 to 16. Designed to instill a sense of passion for the popular sports, the classes will mentor children on the latest techniques, improving their technical and tactical execution.

Transforming the venue into a bustling, unique and creative exercise hub is the team from Original Fitness Co. who will kick off their second year with a fitness and wellbeing tour de force. Recognised as one of the region's leading fitness companies, the team comprised of internationally trained trainers will offer boot camp sessions, yoga, and personal training. Catering to all fitness levels, Original Fitness will also set-up a functional gym that includes free weight and group fitness classes.

Ping Pong Dubai - a non-profit venture between the UAE Table Tennis Association, Dubai Sports Council and Falcon and Associates - is making its debut at DSW after being unveiled last month by UAE No 1 Rashid Abdul Hamid, who made the announcement alongside world No 1 Xin Xu, a member of the Dubai-sponsored Chinese National Team. Up to 12 free-to-use tables will be located in the Entertainment Zone, while Abdul Hamid and UAE No 2 Rashed Mohd Abdulla Hassan, along with a number of other players and coaches, will make regular appearances to help inspire youngsters, as well as offer tips to players, from novices to budding amateurs.
“We welcome everyone in Dubai to join us at Dubai Sports World and discover that table tennis is a fun and social way to be more active,” said Abdul Hamid. “Ping Pong Dubai is a community initiative with a simple aim – to encourage people from all walks of life, regardless of age, ability and fitness, to pick up a bat and play. A number of activities and events will be taking place and details will be announced on the Ping Pong Dubai Facebook page.”
Rage Skate Park also returns to DSW to push extreme-sport in Dubai to the limit. Skaters and BMXers will be able to escape the heat and sharpen their skills in the one-of-a-kind skate park which features rails, mini ramps, fun boxes, and grind boxes. Rage will also hold classes for beginners who want to learn and improve their skating skills.

Alex Medvedev from Rage Stake Park said, “We are proud to return to Dubai Sports World to service the skaters and bikers of Dubai. There has always been a strong skating community in the city and we have proudly built our facilities to provide them an outlet to express themselves and to test their abilities. The philosophy that drives our skaters and Rage is the same philosophy that makes Dubai Sports World such a hit with the residents and visitors of Dubai – dare to think big, and then execute their dream.

“Along with our skate park, we will be hosting three competitions throughout the summer: the Rage Indoor Skateboarding and BMX Championships, the Ramadan Skate and BMX Competition, and the Eid Skate and BMX Competition. All of these competitions are designed to showcase the very best talent in the UAE and give spectators something exciting to watch. Our competitions are meant to be celebrations of the sport, which is as physical as it is creative.”

Keeping the summer competitive, DWTC will also host the popular Dubai Indoor Football Championship from the July 2 - 6, where the very best in European and regional teams will compete head-to-head in a series of football matches to delight spectators. Taking place in the Sheikh Rashid Hall, the championship will welcome thousands of fans who will cheer for some of football's biggest names.

Dubai Sports World is held in partnership with Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, and is supported by supported by Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It will run from June 21 to August 21 from 8am to midnight and from 8am to 3am during Ramadan. The sports ground spans Sheikh Saeed Halls 1 and 2 and the versatile Trade Centre Arena.
