Dubai, UAE – 17 June, 2013: The Change Initiative, a UAE-based sustainability venture, announced today that it has been awarded the LEED® Platinum certification, obtaining the position of the most sustainable building in the world, in June 2013, presented by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). With this certification, The Change Initiative has placed Dubai at No. 1 on the charts for sustainable buildings in the world.

The Change Initiative has obtained a colossal 107 points, breaking the previous record of 104 points, out of a maximum of 110 on the LEED sustainability guidelines, where points are awarded for Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation in Design, and Regional Priority.

Gundeep Singh, CEO and Founder, The Change Initiative, commented on the occasion: “We are very pleased to announce that The Change Initiative has received the LEED Platinum certification, surpassing all previous records for sustainability; to take pole position as the most sustainable building in the world. This is a proud moment for The Change Initiative, Dubai and the UAE. We would like to thank our employees, government bodies, partners and suppliers, media and our customers, for unparalleled support and continued encouragement. We look forward to working closely with all of our stakeholders, and together taking small steps on our journey towards responsible living across the UAE.”

Loek Malmberg, Chairman, The Change Initiative, said: “The Change Initiative expresses gratitude to the leaders of the UAE for the progression of a great city and nation, and supporting SMEs in reaching such great heights – Dubai can now also be known for inhabiting the most sustainable building in addition to all the other great feats the country has accomplished. We believe that it is our duty to positively affect any community in which we operate. In this regard, we support the UAE's national vision which supports sustainability and environmental protection. Moreover, Dubai increasingly understands the importance of introducing more sustainable practices in order to safeguard its long-term prosperity. We intend to facilitate this understanding by making products and services available to both individuals and corporate citizens in the UAE.”

“Buildings are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The Change Initiative efficiently uses our natural resources to make an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come.”
