|Sharjah Media Corporation unveils 2013 Ramadan package|
Dubai, June 12: Ahead of the celebrations during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, Sharjah Media Corporation (SMC) has announced the launch of its new Ramadan programme package offered by Sharjah Radio, Sharjah TV and Sharjah Sports Channel, during a press conference held today (June 12, 2013) at the Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre. With specially-created programmes that address the contemporary lifestyle while complementing the spirit of Ramadan, the new package follows an integrated approach with the main focus on providing novel content that caters to a discerning Arab audience during the holy month.
H.E. Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al-Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation, said that the media has played a vital role over the past few years in promoting the emirate's international image as the Arab capital of Islamic culture. “The Emiri decree to launch Sharjah Media Corporation has been a significant historic breakthrough in the local media scene, in line with the highest values of professionalism, excellence, creativity, transparency and responsible freedom,” H.E. added.
H.E. Al-Qasimi further pointed out that SMC has successfully established a strong presence in the Gulf and Arab media through its radio and television platforms, and built a highly successful, well-respected media structure over the past Ramadan seasons. He added: “The new Ramadan package aims to convey our message to strengthen our national identity and promote Arabic language in support of the efforts towards cultural and intellectual development under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to promote Sharjah as a promising cultural and media hub.”
Dr. Khalid Al Midfa, Director of Sharjah Media Corporation, said: “The media structure is based on a well-balanced strategy that is in line with the vision and directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to shape the media landscape in accordance with the highest standards of professionalism, creativity and innovation, while keeping pace with the ongoing changes. Since its foundation, SMC has adopted a definite approach to sustain the cultural and intellectual identity and the local heritage, as part of its efforts to strengthen the media's role in driving comprehensive development in the UAE.”
Dr. Al Midfa added: “The current media approach has inspired us to develop the new Ramadan package of content-rich programmes as a tool to reflect the national knowledge and cultural values, while celebrating the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan and in the process gaining the respect and trust of the audience.”
For his part, Mohammed Khalaf, Director of Sharjah Radio, gave an overview of the programmes offered as part of the new Ramadan package, including ‘Al Khat Al Mubasher' which is considered one of the UAE's most renowned shows, ‘Al Atheer' to lighten up the mornings of Ramadan, and ‘Khalkom Wayana' featuring exciting competitions and open discussions with some of the UAE's high-profile public figures. Khalaf further shed light on the religious programmes to be aired during Ramadan, such as ‘Al Khitma Al Ramadaniya', ‘Al Reeh Al Morsala' and ‘Shariah al-Noor'.
Khalaf said: “As part of its national duty and pivotal role to maintain our authenticity of origin, SMC is keen to deliver refreshing content that upholds human values upon which the UAE has built its foundations, not to mention its commitment to the Arabic culture and heritage. The upcoming Ramadan package reflects our vision and the true meaning of Islam by focusing on the spiritual and ethical values of the holy month.”
Dr. Khalid Al Midfa stressed on the Ramadan-oriented objective of Sharjah TV, by airing programmes aimed at delivering a true Ramadan experience and integrating the essence of Islamic culture into modern media. The programmes offer a diverse mix of rich religious, informative, cultural, social, drama and entertaining content.
Dr. Al Midfa gave an overview of the TV programmes to be broadcast during Ramadan on Sharjah TV, such as ‘Madfa' Al Iftar' which will return to Al Majaz Waterfront in an entirely innovative and novel look to reaffirm its position as one of the most watched programmes in the UAE during Ramadan. ‘Khatawi Al Monshideen', ‘Fatawa', ‘Tawasalo Belhaq' and ‘Kol Hazihi Sabili' are also part of the Ramadan package as well, conveying the ethical and religious implications of faith, impartiality and forgiveness. “The joyful spirit of Ramadan cannot be truly celebrated without ‘Alam wa Amal' which represents the ideal platform to disseminate the culture of philanthropic, voluntary and humanitarian activities,” he said.
The Sports section takes a great share of the 2013 Ramadan package as well. Dr. Al Midfa affirmed that the Channel will be offering a distinctive range of innovative sports programmes which embody the principles of brotherhood and collaboration in line with the tenets of Islam. This complements the great success achieved throughout the previous Ramadan season which coincided with London Olympics.
Dr. Al Midfa further revealed the Ramadan programmes to be featured on Sharjah Sports Channel, including “Kanat Ayam” which will take the audience back in time to the Emirati sports history through a range of rare photographs which document a memorable sports journey led by Their Highnesses and high-profile professional sportspersons and teams over the past five decades. Delving into the secrets of success of sports stars, “Tawasol Al Ajyal” has a different Ramadan touch, building bridges of communication between three sports generations, integrating the past with the present and the future. Dr. Al Midfa added: “Ramadan is all about hospitality, which brings us to “Fi Diyafatina” which will host some of the leading sports figures and personalities from the UAE and the Arab World to discuss the latest topics related to sports, culture and art in a seamless and engaging manner.”
