|Zareena Spring/Summer 2013 Collection The Essence of Nature and the Mysteries of Life|
“If I were to summarise my collection in one word, I'd choose the word “life” because I was inspired by life and all of nature's beauty and intricacies.” – Zareena Yousef
Emirati fashion designer Zareena Yousef has accentuated her 2013 Spring/Summer Collection with features that reflect life and nature. She presented her collection in a fantastic fashion show held at Zabeel Hall 2, Dubai World Trade Centre on May 25, 2013, Saturday. The event was supported by TanseeQ Event Management.
The show was attended by a number of elite female members of society, media, and fashion enthusiasts. They commended the visionary aesthetic prowess of Zareena, which has been embodied in the form of vibrant dresses that flowed through the catwalk designed to look like green parks and wilderness. Zareena showcased 50 different designs in her show dubbed “A Green Leaf”, highlighting the little veins that constitute a vessel nourishing the plant and providing it with life. True to the theme, international models walked the catwalk to the music of rustling trees, sashaying the dresses with embroidered threads that look like veins. Such details represent a vital factor in any masterpiece; the beauty of it gives it breath and identity, which Zareena calls the “Silent Birth”.
On the first part of the collection, Zareena chose simple, soft fitting fabrics that drape a woman's body perfectly, giving it a beautiful and elegant style. In the other part, the designs are more structured, imitating the buds and leaf of a blooming plant. The styles looked like inverted tulips and buds.
Zareena got her inspiration for her new collection from nature itself, specifically from the wild plants, but in a non-traditional way. When designers say that their collections are inspired by flowers, the designs are usually in the shape of flowers, whether in print or embroidery. In Zareena's case, she innovated her designs even further. She rooted her designs from the spirit of growth and silent birth of botanic life, those moments in which leaves push each other to grow and bloom to life.
Zareena said: 'While working on this collection, I contemplated about flowers, but I used them in a completely different way. I imagined flowers like scattered pollen spray in the wind that spread and make beautiful creations of nature. I wanted to capture the essence of flowers in some of my designs through the method of embroidery, and even in the silk I used. I chose a kind of cloth that gives the woman who wears it a feeling that she is wearing a dress made of the soft leaves of roses, smooth and luxurious with a light gloss, giving nice cooling feeling to the body and fitting summer.'
Zareena used embroidery with very thin metal leads, applying a technique called (Dabke) and another technique called (Gotha Patty), adding her own style to the two techniques, ensuring the uniqueness of each design. She explained: 'The challenge I chose to face lies in how to translate all those visions and convert them into dresses, and the use of techniques that seem simple to the eye but are actually difficult and complicated to implement; with each dress having long days of hard work and concentration to turn its idea into reality.'
The collection is a reflection of the life cycle, of the tenderness and innocence in the soul and the body of man and nature, through which Zareena tried to prove that fashion is substantial and not only a visual form.
She stressed that her consistent concept in fashion design is that “the value of a dress lies in the idea behind it, the luxurious cloth, and the embroidery technique used in it. It is not the overuse of cloth without a central idea, as is currently the norm, especially because dresses sewn randomly create complicated strings and random energy that affect comfort.”
