Dubai Customs Honours Government Entities and Sponsors of ‘2013 WCO IT Conference and Exhibition'

Dubai-UAE: 20 May, 2013: Following the successful conclusion of the three-day 2013 WCO IT Conference and Exhibition themed ‘Effective Solutions for Coordinated Border Management', Dubai Customs hosted a gala dinner to honour government entities and sponsors that contributed to the meticulous planning and seamless coordination of the event.

Held at Atlantis –The Palm on 14 May, the dinner was graced by His Excellency Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Director General of Dubai Customs; Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General, World Customs Organization (WCO), and Susanne Aigner, Deputy Director, Compliance and Facilities, World Customs Organization, and Co-Chair of the conference.

His Excellency Ahmed Butti Ahmed honoured government institutions including the UAE's Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, World Customs Organization, Interpol, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Economics, as well as the customs agencies for Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

His Excellency Ahmed Butti Ahmed additionally acknowledged the corporate sponsor SICPA, the leading global provider of security solutions; premiere platinum sponsors Accenture, the Digital Coding and Tracking Association (DCTA), and Microsoft; gold sponsors Bureau Veritas, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), IBM, Nafith, BULL, CrimsonLogic and the Webb Fontaine Group, as well as the exclusive media partner Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) and the official carrier Emirates airlines.

The ceremony included a video presentation by the Dubai Department of Tourism to showcase the tourist attractions as well as recreational, sports and cultural activities in the emirate for visitors from around the world. A spectacular performance of the UAE's popular folk dance ‘Yola' provided guests with a glimpse of the nation's rich heritage and culture.

The 2013 WCO IT Exhibition and Conference received more than 1,000 global, regional and local specialists in customs, IT and security representing the WCO as well as customs agencies and related departments of over 100 countries. During the three-day event, the speakers discussed ways to ease legal trade, protect borders, enhance coordination between countries in addition to other customs topics such as inspection, scanning systems, IT solutions and customs partners' activities in trade, transportation and logistics.
