DUBAI, June 04, 2014 ― Discussions on sustainability and climate change continue to be hot topics in the UAE and abroad. In line with governments around the world com-mitment to reducing the impact on the environment, LG Electronics (LG) has pledged to continue developing its key business sectors to help make the consumer home more environmentally friendly. Celebrating the 42nd World Environment Day, LG has stood by its energy saving product designs that are not only good for the planet but good for wallets as they help cut energy cost while making homes and companies more energy efficient.
Not to be outdone by the energy savings from their consumers, LG has also committed to making their company a beacon for sustainable enterprise. Emissions from the use of their products was cut 38 million tons in 2013, exceeding the company’s target to re-duce emissions from the use of LG products by 30 million tons in a year.
To continue with this success, LG has set itself a loftier goal of cutting emissions asso-ciated with product use by 60 million tons a year in 2020. A decrease of this size will have the same positive impact on air quality as planting 3 billion pine tree seedlings a yea – something definitely aligned with the arching goals of World Environment Day.
For individual consumer homes, LG introduced a series of home appliances and televi-sions that help reduce a family’s impact on the earth. The development of Linear Com-pressors used in refrigerators and Direct Drive technology in LG washing machines are clear examples of the company leading the way in smart and sustainable products built for any home. These two new apparatuses enable the products to drastically cut energy use while maintaining a powerful yet quiet performance.
When it comes to the home entertainment sector, LG has ensured that no pixel wastes energy with their new line of LED-backlit LCD TVs. These television units achieved 67 percent improved energy efficiency by using Smart Energy Saving Technology while still displaying the pristine image that consumers have come to expect from LG.
The lighting business sector also exemplifies LG’s commitment to the environment as LG has developed light bulbs with a modular design, meaning if something is to go wrong with the bulb, only one part needs to be replaced, not the whole lighting unit. These bulbs are especially beneficial to street lights and environments where there is a high bulb turnover. The minimalistic design helps the bulbs blend into their surroundings; while city officials can rest assured that if they’re cost effective and reduce waste for their city.
LG was recognized for its continued leadership in manufacturing and promoting effi-ciency by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the 2014 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence Award, the highest distinction be-stowed upon ENERGY STAR partners.
“Reaching this milestone could not have been possible if not for the dedication of our employees who have led the way in environmental stewardship,” said Joon-ho Kim, senior vice president and head of LG’s Quality Center. “We will continue to push the boundaries to bring innovations to our customers that are both technologically superior and environmentally responsible.”
In Korea, LG has also earned 98 low-carbon product certifications in the field of home appliances from the Ministry of Environment and Korean Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, more than any other manufacturer to date.
This World Environment Day, LG Electronics can proudly state that their company is truly leading the way in sustainable innovation for consumer and business technologies.
