Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon) kick-start an unprecedented Youth Empowerment Programme for Student Thought Leaders with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) & Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA)
2nd June 2014, Dubai, UAE: DEWA and Dubai Carbon will initiate forty Carbon Ambassadors students, at their first kick-off meeting at the DEWA Sustainability Building on World Environment Day. Dubai Carbon launched The Carbon Ambassador Programme with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and the DEWA during Dubai Green Week & the World Green Economy Summit .
The Carbon Ambassadors will be the next generation of leaders trained for positions created through the ambitions laid out for the UAE in the coming years.
Waleed Salman, Chairman, Dubai Carbon said, “With great pride, we will initiate our Carbon Ambassadors on the occasion of World Environment Day, on the 5th of June 2014. They are set to embark on a year long journey in which they will receive exposure to the industry and gain professional experience. The programme will cultivate young minds for critical thinking, creative collaboration and transfer the knowledge of confident, constructive communication about ‘carbon’ and moving towards a low carbon green economy for sustainable development.”
The programme aims to “push” young, bright minds into the deep end of the pool, where through hands on projects, competitions, trainings and participation in conferences, they will implement their knowledge into stimulating scenarios. In line with the activities of the UAE, which streamline a culture of sustainable development and green economy, the UAE’s leaders of tomorrow will be shaped and be enabled to consciously interact with local and global perspectives.
Forty Ambassadors have been chosen for the year 2014 – 2015 and will work closely with Dubai Carbon whilst being involved in decision making processes and trained in the areas of sustainability, carbon emission reductions and climate change mitigation, and adaptation. This is the beginning of a great movement that will empower the youth to take ownership of the UAE’s ambitions and in turn allow it to flourish more.
