Visiting Officials Tour Center's Facilities including Latest Projects in Al Ain
Abu Dhabi-UAE: 06 July, 2013 – The Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi received a delegation from Dubai Municipality to exchange best practices in waste management and strengthen mutual collaboration.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured various facilities of the center including the compost plant, plastic and tyres recycling plants, as well as the sorting station, landfill, construction and demolition waste recycling facility, and the medical waste and fallen stock incinerators. A special tour to the center's latest projects in Al Ain was also conducted.
Led by Engineer Abdul Majeed Al Saifaie, Director of the Waste Management Department, the Dubai Municipality delegation included Naji Mohammed Al Radhi, Head of Waste Treatment, Khaled Mohsen Al Naqbi, Head of Operations and Cleaning Services, Yacoop Al Ali, Head of Specialist Hygiene, and Ali Al Hammadi, Head of Technical Support and Studies Section.
Dr Salem Al Kaabi, acting General Manager of the Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi, received the Dubai Municipality delegation along with Nael Al Shamsi, Manager of the Al Ain Branc, Khaled Al Bloushi, Head of Public Awareness Section, and a number of technicians.
During the meeting, the center's team delivered a presentation that highlighted the operations of the Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi, placing special emphasis on activities at the projects in Al Ain. A detailed explanation on the issues relating to reducing, re-using and recycling waste was also offered. The meeting additionally identified ways of strengthening cooperation between the center and Dubai Municipality.
Dr Salem Al Kaabi said: “The Dubai Municipality shares our philosophy of enhancing joint efforts and communication to promote environmental sustainability and public health. Both organizations have prioritized the reduction of waste production and increase in re-use to achieve our mutual objectives in waste management. We are confident that this synergy will allow us to take phenomenal strides and position the UAE on the global map for sustainable development.'
Nael Al Shamsi, Manager of the Al Ain Branch, Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi, said: 'This visit comes in line with our commitment to promoting the exchange of experiences and expertise among all stakeholders. Towards this end, we discussed issues of shared interest. The delegation was also briefed on the experience and capabilities of the Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi, its facilities, advanced systems, programs and best practices.
“Moving forward, we are confident of identifying areas that will require us to sustain our partnership in line with our leadership's vision for Abu Dhabi.'
Eng. Naji Alradhi, Head of Waste Treatment Section at Dubai Municipality, said: “We applaud the center's management for their relentless efforts at Al Ain City. Thanks to their initiative, the center successfully recycles over 70 percent of the waste produced in the Al Ain city. This is a commendable achievement and we wish the center continued success and growth.
“Our visit to the center reiterated the fact that exchanging ideas and expertise on the subject of waste management will ultimately prove beneficial to all the other emirates in the UAE. We particularly welcome Dr. Salem Al Kaabi's suggestion to ink partnership with the waste treatment department at Dubai Municipality.”
The Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi focuses on the adoption of best practices in waste management, including, reuse, recycling and waste segregation at source. The center continuously runs educational and awareness initiatives for Abu Dhabi citizens and community in line with the objectives of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.
