The eleventh edition of Automechanika Dubai was flagged off at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre yesterday,(Tuesday, June 11th). The foremost international B2B and networking event serving the region's growing automotive aftermarket, opened 25% larger than the previous year, with 12% more exhibitors.
Setting things in motion was H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority who inaugurated the show accompanied by senior government and industry figures as well as noted members of the regional automotive fraternity.
Speaking at the opening Al Tayer said: “The automotive trade is one of the most important industry sectors that services a large sector of the economy. Automechanika Dubai is the biggest show for aftermarket trade in the region as it shows products, services and accessories, that improve auto efficiency.
“There is a 25% increase in this year's edition which underlines the rapid growth of Dubai's economy. This is because of the growth in the number of infrastructure investment projects which reflects positively on the trade. This is a very significant show for RTA, as we have fleets of buses, taxis and sea transport vehicles. All of these need maintenance, repair, equipment and accessories which we source from the show,” Al Tayer added.
Automechanika Dubai is one of organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt's fastest growing shows, which last year attracted 20,715 trade visitors and buyers from 120 countries, an example of the event's vast reach across Western Asia, Eastern Europe, the CIS, Middle East and Africa. Both the show organiser and exhibitors have high hopes for Automechanika Dubai 2013 and expect it will be even busier than last year's record-setting edition.
“Being located in Dubai, the hub of a rapidly growing automotive aftermarket, Automechanika Dubai plays a key role in connecting global manufacturers and suppliers with the promising yet diverse markets in the wider region,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “The exhibition also serves as an interactive arena that highlights key issues affecting the industry and brings to the fore trends and developments likely to shape the business deals of the future,” he added.
The show floor was busy from opening with keen trade visitors looking for interesting product innovations and scouting for new automotive component suppliers. Large numbers of trade buyers could be seen touring the 23 country pavilions at the show, as well as the myriad of independent exhibitors throughout the five distinct product sections.
Participating as part of the German Pavilion is BPW looking to promote their economic solutions for vehicle systems and telematic applications at Automechanika Dubai. Mr. Frank Simon, Director Overseas Sales of BPW, said: “This is the leading business generating event for the Middle East market and we are excited to be here. At the show we anticipate we can make an impact on the participants of the commercial vehicle industry with our Let's go ECO product range.”
Automechanika Dubai 2013 is showcasing the following main product groups across 11 halls at the exhibition centre: Parts & Systems, Repair & Maintenance, Tyres & Batteries, Service Station & Car Wash and Accessories & Tuning.
Today (Wednesday, June 12th) will see the opening sessions of the much-awaited Automechanika Academy. Providing valuable insights into topics that affect the industry's overall development, the academy features an influential panel of expert speakers. Ms. Nassim Al Muhairi from the Strategy & Corporate Excellence Department at the Statistics Section of Dubai Customs is expected to reveal the auto parts total trade in Dubai for 2012. The 2011 figure surpassed the previous 2008 record, coming out at US$9.9 bn and regional industry experts expect that it will have broken the US$10 bn milestone in 2012.
Following the Dubai Customs presentation will be Mr. Subhash Joshi, Program Manager, MENA & South Asia for Frost & Sullivan who will be releasing a significant white paper covering key megatrends in the passenger and commercial vehicles industry across the GCC.
