School health professionals in Dubai to receive Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and pocket CPR machine

United Arab Emirates, Dubai, May 5, 2013: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in partnership with Dubai Education Zone and Leader Healthcare launched today a campaign to provide schools in Dubai with training on the latest techniques in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

In addition, all 186 schools- 156 private and 30 government- will receive free pocket CPR machines after they undergo CPR training.

The campaign was inaugurated at Al Salam Girls School in Al Barsha in presence of HE Eng Essa Al Maidoor, DHA Director-General and Dr Ahmad Eid Al Mansouri, the director general of Dubai Education Zone.

HE Al Maidoor highlighted the importance of this campaign and said: “This is a continuation of the ongoing school health and safety programs implemented by the DHA. Last year, we provided training to 200 healthcare professionals working across schools in Dubai on handling emergencies. We are pleased that we have taken this initiative forward and are now providing them with pocket CPR machines which will assist them in administering the right care during emergency situations.”

The pocket CPR machines will be sponsored by Leader Healthcare. The machine guides healthcare providers who are administering CPR on the right method of resuscitation.

Dr Ramadan Ibrahim, Director of DHA Health Regulation said: “This program is part of our regulatory policies for schools which emphasises on the need to ensure a safe environment for students. Our aim is to ensure that all school healthcare professionals are well trained to tackle emergency situations that can arise at schools.  It is part of our strategy to provide the latest health and safety training programs to them on a regular basis.”

Amal Al Mehrezi, Head of School Health Unit, DHA Health Regulation Department said: “This is the first time we are providing pocket CPR machines across schools.  Given the compact size of the machines, it is very convenient and enhances the efficiency of providing CPR. For example, the machine will guide the person performing CPR about the need to increase or decrease the pressure and/or pace which performing CPR.”

She said that such initiatives are essential as part of the DHA's school health program and thanked Leader Healthcare for sponsoring the pocket CPR machines.
