Hair loss among women folk higher in Gulf

Doha, Qatar April 28, 2013: Hair loss among women folk across the Gulf States is the highest in the world on various reasons, as the majority of women in the region suffer from this menace, a study, conducted recently.

The study attributed several reasons for hair loss, including climatic factors, such as high temperatures and humidity in the summer, high salinity in water, frequent use of shampoo that contains chemicals, , in addition to frequent, changing lifestyles, and families' reliance on junk food.

The study suggested that one should always use chemical-free shampoos, such as baby shampoos and dietary supplements, to avoid the phenomenon of hair loss.

A leading global healthcare company in Qatar recently announced the launch of the micronutrient special formulation which counters hair loss and promotes healthy hair growth.

The new product, which contains extracts of millet that is rich in necessary nutrients for the hair root, the hair vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) and L-cystine, a component of the hair protein keratin, has been endorsed by modern scientific studies and is considered the No.1 brand in Germany and Switzerland.

In this regard, a lecture was organised to address the topic in depth, during which Professor Dr. Assem Farag, Member of the Egyptian Society of Dermatology, said that hair loss is a prevalent issue in Qatar as well as in the rest of the Gulf States due to a number of reasons, including salt water, heat, humidity, and stress, in addition to some hereditary factors.

He pointed out that thousands and even millions of people around the world suffer from hair loss and lack of natural hair growth.

Professor Farag added, 'Hair loss causes many psychosocial problems for some people, forcing them sometimes to replace their natural hair with wigs, which does not give the same look and feel to the person. Unfortunately, half of the people who suffer from hair loss are female, It is currently the leading drug for the treatment of hair loss in many European countries and will be available across all pharmacies in Qatar.'

Highlighting the benefit of the newly-launched product, and mentioning that a single strand of hair grows on an average of one centimetre per month, Professor Farag prescribed two to three capsules of new medicine everyday to ensure healthy hair growth.
