Dubai, UAE; March 25, 2013: Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation, visited SIKKA 2013, marking the conclusion of the third edition of Dubai Culture's contemporary artist-led fair, in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.
An upcoming artist herself and an active member in the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, the Emirate's dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa toured SIKKA 2013, where she reviewed over 70 commissioned works by Emirati and UAE-based artists.
The third edition of SIKKA had the largest roster of community-driven and art-centred activities, all open to the public, free-of-charge, recording robust interest from visitors and residents, in addition to performances by over 10 locally-based bands, and 14 multidisciplinary initiatives and collectives.
Held concurrently with Art Week, Dubai's premier umbrella arts initiative, comprising Art Dubai and Design Days Dubai, both of which are strategically supported by Dubai Culture, SIKKA featured a plethora of activities ranging from workshops, talks and discussions, guided tours and walks, film and animation screenings and children's programmes.
Having expanded its scope to include visual arts, performing arts, film, and music, SIKKA included a diverse spread of mediums, including animation workshops, Haiku walks, art auctions, Polaroid photography and Arabic calligraphy. The fair also covered a range of subjects from visual arts, animation, design, new media, literature and poetry, music and performing arts offering artists, art enthusiasts, children, and visitors, insights into the creative flourish of culture and arts in Dubai.
