1.8 km tunnel cuts through the Hajar Mountain towards emirate of Fujairah
Abu Dhabi, UAE – 31, July 2021: Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE National Rail Network, has completed the longest tunnel in the Gulf Region. Running for 1.8 km, the tunnel is part of Package D on Stage Two. Package D runs for 145 km from Dubai and Sharjah, through the Al Hajar Mountains, toward the emirate of Fujairah. The package includes the construction of nine tunnels through the mountains at a cumulative length of 6.9 kilometres, and additionally includes 54 bridges and 20 animal crossings.

Sharjah, July 29, 2021: The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority revealed that Sharjah Customs officials managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle about 93 kilograms of crystal meth and 3,000 methadone tablets into the country.
The seizures were hidden under a container carrying foodstuffs coming from one of the neighboring countries, the Authority said in a statement.
When checking the container upon its late arrival during the Eid al-Adha holidays, Customs officials found out that there were imbalances in the distribution of goods inside the container. Abu Dhabi, 7 July 2021: In celebration of World Sea Turtle Day which falls on June 16th, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) launched a large and diverse group of previously rescued turtles back into Abu Dhabi’s waters via the beach at Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas, so they may return to their natural habitats.
The released group came from a batch of 150 turtles that the EAD is currently rehabilitating at the National Aquarium. From this diverse group, a loggerhead, a hawksbill and a green sea turtle were selected to be fitted with satellite tracking devices fixed to their shells, allowing the Agency to monitor their progress and collect data about their lifestyles and migration paths.
