Dubai – 30 Dec 2021: Authorities at Dubai Customs’ Jebel Ali and Tecom Center thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1.5 tons of crushed captagon. The seizure of the banned stimulant is the biggest haul of its kind in the country.
Detailed released showed that the Customs Operations Room at the Sea Customs Center Management, aided by Siyaj (the customs port control project), had analysed all data related to a high- risk shipment coming to Jebel Ali Port. The shipment was carefully monitored using the smart system prior to its arrival at the port.
At arrival, the container was inspected and the substance was discovered. The street value of the seized 1.5 tons of captagon is estimated at AED1.4 billion.

Abu Dhabi, 21 December 2021: As part of the world’s largest mammal re-introduction programme, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has just completed a successful mission to translocate 25 Scimitar-horned Oryx (SHO) and 25 Addax to Chad, which will soon be released into the wild as the two species have overlapping home ranges. The Agency is also planning to translocate another 25 SHO to Chad in February 2022.
The EAD team also successfully darted 18 wild SHO and fit them with satellite tracking collars enabling close monitoring including survival and reproduction. One herd observed was 87 animals, where over 100 calves will be born in the wild this year.

Abu Dhabi, December 8th, 2021: On a virtual event, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) today released the findings of its fourth Green House Gas (GHG) emissions inventory, using 2018 GHG data and future forecasts until 2030. Two emission scenarios were used, including a Business-As-Usual scenario, as per the state of emissions and implemented mitigation measures in the year 2016 (BAU2016); and a “Mitigation Path” scenario, as per the state of actual emissions in 2018 and the partners’ announced plans and initiatives to mitigate emissions.

Friday Afternoon, Saturday and Sunday to be New UAE Weekend
December 7, 2021: The UAE Government is to adopt a new four and a half day working week, effective from January 1, 2022. The move applies to Federal government entities and comes alongside new working hours, with Monday to Thursday workdays now starting at 7.30am and ending at 3.30pm and Friday working hours from 7.30am-12.00pm.
Alongside the move, Friday sermons and prayers across the Emirates will be held from 1.15pm. Government staff will have the flexibility to make arrangements to work from home on Fridays, as well as to arrange their working hours on a flexi-time basis.
The Emirates is the first nation in the world to introduce a national working week shorter than the global five-day week.
