IWC Schaffhausen helps raise funds for Charles Darwin Foundation
IWC Schaffhausen helps raise funds for Charles Darwin Foundation

Puerto Ayora, Galapagos, 21 June 2014 – The Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) and IWC Schaffhausen have again joined forces in a venture to help protect the unique flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands by launching a new fundraising project. A three-tier membership program offered on www.iwc.com will enable participants to donate USD 20, USD 200 or USD 1000 and receive exclusive benefits in return. All donations will go toward CDF’s science and conservation priorities in Galapagos.

The Charles Darwin Foundation is the oldest, biggest and most successful scientific undertaking in the Galapagos Islands and is doing everything in its power to preserve the archipelago for future generations, but much remains to be done, according to Swen Lorenz, CEO of the Charles Darwin Foundation. “We are very excited to launch a membership program together with IWC Schaffhausen, enabling participants with an interest in environmental issues to donate money to the CDF. This program gives everyone the opportunity to support our mission in conserving the archipelago’s unique range of fauna and flora. We are grateful to all our friends and donors for their support,” said Swen Lorenz.

DO GOOD – ONE CLICK AT A TIME

In a concerted effort the CDF and IWC Schaffhausen have put together a three-tier membership package on www.iwc.com that will keep participants up to speed on progress and developments in the Galapagos Islands and enable them to provide financial support for CDF’s work. Individuals who choose to donate USD 1,000 will become Benefactors of the CDF and be invited to various events from the CDF and IWC such as the annual CDF General Assembly or an IWC boutique event, receive a special documentation package and qualify for preferential treatment if travelling to the Galapagos Islands including a VIP tour of the research station. At a cost of USD 200, participants will become Supporters of CDF which entitles them to receive the CDF and IWC newsletters, and enjoy an invitation to the research station if travelling to the Islands. The third option is to symbolically adopt an endangered species at a cost of
USD 20: a positive step toward protecting animals and the habitat in which they live.

PRESERVING NATURE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

IWC Schaffhausen has actively supported the work of the CDF since 2009, most prominently through a series of special and limited edition watches, such as the current Aquatimer collection. These watches act not only as ambassadors for good causes: a portion of the proceeds from their sale also make a welcome financial contribution to the activities of the CDF. To further consolidate its strong commitment to preserving the environment, IWC is delighted to offer visitors of its website the option to donate money to the Charles Darwin Foundation. “The Galapagos Islands represent a unique environment, and we take pride in supporting the Charles Darwin Foundation in its efforts to preserve it,” says Georges Kern, CEO of IWC. “We regularly hear from individuals who express a desire to take a more active role. In response, we support this programme that will enable individuals to help the CDF’s work and at the same time enjoy a variety of exclusive benefits.”

TRAVEL OPPORTUNITY & YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

CDF and IWC Schaffhausen have also joined forces to offer exclusive travel opportunities and the possibility for young people to get involved through volunteering
work. Individuals who wish to travel with the CDF to the Galapagos Islands benefit from the expertise of a leading research station and a privileged insight into the work of the foundation. All trips organized by the CDF adhere to environment principles and are organized exclusively through tour operators who subscribe to the principles of the CDF. Alternatively, young people seeking a genuine hands-on experience may opt for an international volunteer placement in the CEO’s office at the CDF. The volunteer will shadow and assist staff, and experience first-hand what goes on in the Station. This four week paid volunteer placement is designed for nature enthusiasts who want to gain a practical understanding of what it takes to preserve and protect the planet’s most unusual natural environment. Fees generated from this program will directly support the work of the Charles Darwin Foundation.
