Group's events attract 3.5 million trade visitors globally
Leading international trade fair and conference organiser Messe Frankfurt has reported strong growth figures in 2012. The company closed financial year 2012 with a new sales record of €536.9 million (AED 2.62 billion).
Speaking at the company's Half-Year Press Conference recently, Messe Frankfurt President and CEO Wolfgang Marzin stated: “In the past financial year, our long-term strategic and operational measures have further strengthened our Group's global market position and competitiveness.”
Considerable growth in overseas revenue
At the company's Frankfurt base, consolidated sales of €343.1 million (AED 1.63 billion) were generated in total, accounting for some 64 percent of Group sales. There has also been considerable growth in operating business outside Germany. A new record of €168.5 million was set and the proportion of overall sales revenue actually to foreign markets was increased to 31.4 percent.
In the reporting year, 109 trade fairs and exhibitions were held worldwide, together with 326 conventions and other events – all in all, an estimated total of 78,500 exhibitors and 3.5 million visitors took part. A total of 35 trade fairs and exhibitions took place at the company's Frankfurt base.
Of these, 14 were organised by the Messe Frankfurt Group itself, registering approximately 22,000 exhibitors and 834,000 visitors in all. Six events were held at other exhibition venues in Germany. 68 trade fairs and exhibitions were organised outside Germany. Over 34,400 exhibitors and 1.174 million visitors were recorded – both new records.
Middle East subsidiary Epoc Messe Frankfurt reported an extremely successful 2012 with their exhibitions drawing in over 76,282 trade visitors and attracting 3,721 exhibitors.
“The Middle East region is a highly significant marketplace with economies on the upswing and considerable ongoing infrastructural and commercial spending, attracting the attention of international companies,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “Messe Frankfurt-organised trade events have built up the reputation of being key business development and facilitating platforms with region-wide reach and credibility. These are among the chief reasons for our ongoing success,” he stated.
Internationally successful first half of trade fair year 2013
For Messe Frankfurt, the first six months of the 2013 trade fair year were very successful indeed. Wolfgang Marzin said: “Capacity utilisation at our Frankfurt base was very good and our stable core business was at a high level.” He added that a number of key figures had been significantly higher than those of previous years' events, with an ever-higher level of international participation and outstanding visitor quality.
“Messe Frankfurt 2020” – strategic route for further growth
Wolfgang Marzin explained the company's strategic objective for the coming years: “Our company concept is a winning one and we are constantly working on new ways to enhance it.”
In the “Messe Frankfurt 2020” agenda, the company set medium- and long-term goals: “We build on proven foundations, modify them as required and keep a close eye on new developments.” In Frankfurt, the focus is therefore on further strengthening our exhibition venue and improving capacity utilisation at our exhibition grounds by increasing event density and expanding its convention business.
By keeping standards high and making further investments in events, infrastructure and in the growing range of services, Messe Frankfurt aims to safeguard its quality and its global growth in the long term. Wolfgang Marzin: “We want to continue growing in clearly defined business segments and growth fields.”
For Messe Frankfurt, this involves strengthening both its product range and its portfolio of trade fairs. Its key target markets outside Germany include the Middle East, China, Russia and India.
In the Middle East, Epoc Messe Frankfurt has been stepping up its engagement with the region's market and concentrating on growing its flagship shows. The group has also witnessed significant strengthening of the conferences sector and is currently in the process of scouting further regional growth opportunities.
