Recent figures reveal that South African automotive exports to the UAE more than doubled in just one year between 2011 and 2012, with the Automotive Industry Export Council of South Africa reporting that the UAE imported AED 98.54 million worth of automotive parts and accessories from South Africa in 2012 as compared to AED 44.47 million in 2011. The market value for automotive exports from the UAE to South Africa is also growing and amounted to AED 19.93 million in 2012.
The South African automotive aftermarket is enjoying sustained growth and the country boasts a diverse range of manufacturers producing original equipment components, parts and accessories which are in increasing demand the world over.
South African manufacturers are participating in strength at Automechanika Dubai 2013, looking to further cement their presence in the region, which is a fast growing market for the industry. The South African Pavilion at Automechanika Dubai 2013 represents a kaleidoscope of automotive aftermarket majors from the country. Among the regular participants who will be back this year are: Triton-Leo Group, Anoplate, Universal Clips CC and Centre for Automotive Components.
Providing details on the South African participation at the aftermarket's premium dedicated trade and networking exhibition, Automechanika Dubai, Norman Lamprecht, Executive Director, of the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) said: “The South African automotive industry will be participating in Automechanika Dubai in 2013 with a National Pavilion for the sixth consecutive year illustrating the importance of the region for the country's automotive industry. Automotive trade between South Africa and the UAE has been growing over recent years and the 2013 event will in particular provide an excellent platform to discuss many more opportunities of mutual benefit in view of the commencement of the new Automotive Production Development Programme in South Africa where the vision is to double vehicle production to 1,2 million units per annum by 2020.”
Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Automechanika Dubai organiser, Epoc Messe Frankfurt, underlined the role played by trade gatherings such as Automechanika Dubai in enabling manufacturers and suppliers from across the globe to reach deep into an otherwise difficult to penetrate market. “Exhibitions such as Automechanika Dubai are key drivers in the ongoing development of bilateral trade relations. The show's reach spans markets across the Middle East, North and East Africa and Central and South Asia, giving participating exhibitors a definite advantage in creating awareness of their product range to a wider audience. This, in turn, can lead to new business being generated, helping to increase trade between different countries,” he said.
Automechanika Dubai 2013 looks set to open bigger and more representative than ever at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The exhibition which attracted 20,715 trade visitors and key influencers from around the region and featured 1,324 exhibitors from across the international spectrum in 2012 is set to break new records according to the organiser.
Automechanika Dubai will feature a wide range of the latest automotive components, accessories, garage equipment as well as refuelling and car washing equipment and machinery. The show is divided into 5 product groups, namely: Parts & Systems, Repair & Maintenance, Tyres & Batteries, Service Station & Car Wash and Accessories & Tuning.
