With its status as the commercial and financial hub of the strategically and economically vital Middle East region, as well as its acknowledged reputation as a leading international business destination, Dubai is an ideal venue to host the World Expo 2020 according to Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of leading German trade fair and conference organiser, Epoc Messe Frankfurt.
The Arabian Peninsula has for long figured prominently on historical international trade routes, and today trade is what forms part of Dubai's lifeblood, said Pauwels. The modern city of Dubai is a preferred events and business tourism destination and it is a business centre servicing a hinterland of more than 2 billion people.
Home to a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic population drawn from over 100 countries, Dubai is a magnet for international investment and talent and figures prominently in a number of benchmark categories. According to the World Bank's Doing Business Index, the UAE rose to 23rd overall in 2013 as compared to a 33rd ranking in 2012 and 36th in 2011.
Transparency International rated the UAE as the least corrupt nation in the entire MENA region, while an INSEAD report on Measuring the Innovative Capabilities of Nations has grouped the UAE along with the US and Australia as among the most attractive destinations globally for foreign talent and investment.*
“As official supporters of Dubai's Expo 2020 bid, we are proud to stand firmly with the government in their effort to bring this mega event to our city,” said Pauwels. “Messe Frankfurt is the organiser of the German Pavilion – one of the largest exhibits at the 2015 Milan Expo. We will continue to actively back Dubai's candidacy drive and stand ready to offer any assistance we can with our event-related experience. We will also actively promote Dubai's candidacy at all our upcoming events.”
Milan in 2015 is the next World Expo, an event which takes place every five years. Previous editions were held in Hannover (2000), Nagakute (Japan, 2005) and Shanghai (China, 2010).
The theme of the 2015 Expo is “Feeding the planet, energy for life”. According to the organisers, the national pavilions will focus on issues such as food, energy, life and the globe. The world expo is scheduled to be open for six months, from 1 May to 31 October 2015.
Messe Frankfurt is considered the world's largest trade fair corporation with its own exhibition grounds. The company has a presence in more than 150 countries around the globe. Over the course of the year, events “made by Messe Frankfurt” take place in more than 30 locations. Epoc Messe Frankfurt has grown to be one of the leading trade fair and conference organisers in the fast-growing Middle East region with a comprehensive calendar of tightly-focused trade events.
