Workplace accidents and illnesses claim 2.3 million lives annually

Region's foremost security and safety trade fair to highlight importance of safe work practices

Accidents or illness at the workplace are estimated to claim 6,300 lives daily across the globe and as many as 2.3 million annually according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Furthermore, as much as 337 million workplace accidents occur per year leading to extended absences from work. These stunning statistics bring into sharp focus the growing need for enhanced measures for workplace health and safety.*

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is rapidly gaining in prominence globally as governments, private and public sector firms, factory and workshop owners, construction site managers etc, all realise the importance of scaling down the tremendous loss of manpower and workdays caused by unsafe working conditions. There is also growing awareness worldwide about the need for a safer working environment, which has only been further forcefully underscored by the recent rash of factory fires that led to tragic loss of life and property in the subcontinent.

The Middle East, with its booming real estate industry and large-scale construction projects, is also a region where OSH is of prime concern. Increasingly stringent regulations with regard to worker health and safety have led to a tremendous improvement in working conditions around the region. A wide range of OSH consultants, specialists, training experts as well as manufacturers and suppliers of protective equipment, clothing and safety systems are expected to be present in strength at Intersec 2013 – the largest and most comprehensive exhibition and conference for security, safety and fire protection in the region.

“Ensuring work safety is beneficial to both the worker and the employer and leads to enhanced levels of productivity and performance”, said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organiser of Intersec. “Greater awareness about the benefits of safe working practices can cut down the number of workplace casualties tremendously. Employers who invest in training their workforce about safety measures, stand to benefit from the reduced loss caused by accidents and injuries,” he added.

Exhibiting will be JSP Ltd who are Europe's leading independent manufacturer of “above the neck” Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and acknowledged leader in Industrial Head Protection. “JSP's mission is to develop quality, innovative safety products that help improve Occupational Safety & Health worldwide,” said Pierre Dizier of JSP Ltd, who is optimistic for a profitable outing at Intersec 2013.

Training and certification consultants, RRC Middle East intend to attract the interest of a large number of OSH professionals in their resources and training courses during Intersec. “We are looking forward to welcoming as many visitors as possible to our stand. Each one can be assured of a warm welcome, as well as plenty of advice on how to train their staff to reach their full potential and therefore help to improve the efficiency and performance of their organisation,” said Hasan Alaradi, Managing Director of training consultants RRC Middle East.

First time exhibitor, Euro-Fashion will showcase a wide range of industrial workwear, fire retardant clothing and hi-visibility garments at the exhibition. The range of products are suitable for various sectors including engineering, oil & gas, construction, automotive and medical & hospitality and will include first time product launches of workwear and safety uniforms.

Intersec 2013 features a comprehensive health and safety section that offers tremendous networking opportunities for OSH professionals, global players and key decision makers from the region. The section will feature the following product categories: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); Environmental Protection at Work; Safety at Work Equipment; Association, Education & Training and Health at Work.

Among the leading international and regional exhibitors making their presence felt in the Safety & Health section at Intersec include: Ansell, Allsafe, ATG Gloves, Al Bahri, Bata Industries, Canasafe, Cofra, Euro-Fashion, Honeywell, INIM, JAL Group, JSP Ltd, Karam Safety, NEBOSH, PBI, RRC Middle East, Singing Rock and Venus Safety & Health, among others.

The popular conference programme at Intersec 2013 will feature the Aviation Security Summit and the Fire Safety, Standards and Regulations Forum. Well regarded among industry professionals in the region, the forums will feature a range of international experts making presentations on vital safety and security issues.

Intersec 2013 will also feature the popular UAE Firefighters Challenge which will pit fire and rescue crews from GCC countries and Europe against each other in a series of competitive events.

Intersec 2013 will take place from January 15th to 17th at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The exhibition is part of Messe Frankfurt's global network of security trade fairs which also include Secutech India, Secutech Taiwan, Secutech Thailand, Intersec Buenos Aires, Secutech Vietnam and Seguriexpo Buenos Aires.
