Malabar Gold & Diamonds Pledges 2.5 million Meals to the Needy - Distributes Food Kits Across GCC & Far East
o Sets asides AED 1.6 million for relief activities 
o 15,000 food kits being distributed to stranded laborers and families across GCC and Far East
o Part of CSR initiatives; beneficiaries are being identified through respective embassies, regional & charitable associations, and customers
o Kit includes food provision for a family or a group of bachelors for 30 days
 
 
As millions of people across the globe endure one of the biggest crisis the world has ever seen, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, one among the largest jewellery retailers with over 250 stores globally, strengthens its CSR initiatives across GCC & Far East. In response to the rising severity and impact of the Covid-19 outbreak, Malabar Gold & Diamonds has initiated distribution of 15,000 food kits to stranded laborers and families affected by the crisis. The unprecedented scenario brought about by Covid-19 has led to the redirection of CSR efforts usually undertaken by Malabar Gold & Diamonds during normal times towards distributing food kits to those affected by the crisis. Although the implications of Covid-19 are yet to be known, it is sure to be disrupting normal lives for at least some time, in response to which Malabar Gold & Diamonds has implemented this initiative, which is expected to benefit a large section of the society across all countries in which it operates. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on April 19th, announced the launch of the ’10 million meals’ campaign to support families and individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that left many facing unemployment and income reductions. This inspired Malabar Gold & Diamonds to focus its CSR initiatives to provide 2.5 million meals to the needy.

Considering the difficulties caused by the unprecedented crisis, this year, we decided to focus on distributing food kits to affected families and individuals to ease their current circumstances. The food kits contain essential supplies, including staple, lentils, oil, and spices, for which the group has set aside an amount of AED 1.6 million. These food kits should help a family or group of individuals sustain for 30 days. The entire activity is being spearheaded by the team members of Malabar Gold & Diamonds with the support of external organizations and associations to identify the needy in the local communities. Those in real need of the food kits, across GCC and Far East, are identified through respective embassies, regional associations, and likeminded organizations like KMCC, Red Crescent, Community Development Authority, etc. as well as through the reference by customers of Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
 
Corporate Social Responsibility has always been a key element of the culture at Malabar Gold & Diamonds. The group supports many philanthropic activities and is always ready to take initiatives to help the deprived section in the society, setting aside 5% of its profit for CSR activities across all regions that they operate. The key focus areas of the CSR initiatives of Malabar Group are in the areas of Health, Education, Women Empowerment, Housing, and Environment. The group, which currently has showrooms across GCC, India, Far East, and USA undertakes several welfare activities with the association of like-minded organizations in the respective regions.
